The Rainbow of Chaos

We all experience chaos in our lives. At times it can feel as if we're being tossed about on an angry sea. Trauma, grief, conflict, toxic people and anger all contribute to the chaos we experience. I believe one of the great paradoxes of life is that by going through the chaos we can find gratitude, joy, and authenticity in our lives and relationships.

“We live in a rainbow of chaos” - Paul Cèzanne

I love this quote by Paul Cèzanne. I think it’s a great description of chaos. Cèzanne was a French post-impressionist painter born in 1839. He's been called 'the father of modern art' because he demonstrated how free art could be. He encouraged other artists to explore shape, space and color without needing it to make sense in a traditional way. Cèzanne tried to reconcile a complex disorderly world with the harmony and patterns that lie beneath the surface. Cèzanne experienced a lot of chaos in his own life. He struggled to get his work displayed and sold, and was savaged by critics.

I'd like to think Cèzanne is referring to chaos as not merely disorder or something to fear and avoid, but as a spectrum of vibrant hues, each color representing the myriad emotions, experiences, and sensations that define human existence.

This perspective invites us to embrace the chaos of life, to find beauty in its unpredictability, and to uncover the underlying order amidst the apparent confusion. In essence, his words beckon us to recognize that within the chaos, there is a profound and captivating harmony waiting to be discovered.

Embrace the rainbow!

Peace,

Steve
